Mobile Classroom Lab in Malaysia : Aiming at Glocal (global + local) Action

October 06, 2016

Yuri Nakamura, a Technical Research Officer of Faculty of Engineering visited SETIA ALAM Primary School in Malaysia on September 23 and present their Mobile Classroom Lab experiments with Ms. Hariyani Madon as the host scientist. Ms. Hariyani is a graduate of Okayama university and a member of the university’s Malaysia alumni group. Forty five students of second grade joined the experiments.

Following the explanation in English by Ms. Nakamura, the pupils prepared blackboard chalks by using chemical reagents. In addition, they observed that pigments of various colors for marker pens were separated due to the principle of paper chromatography.

The pupils listened intently to explanations given with video and slides, and they could give answers to questions in English. Thus this classroom provided an opportunity for the younger generation learning.

Okayama University’s international alumni groups currently have 50 branches (including eight bases). The alumni groups broaden the network of graduates overseas, and are working to strengthen international exchanges and collaborations with communities.
