On December 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm, the Discovery Program for Global Learners at Okayama University announced the list of successful candidates of the first period of international applications for the fall of 2017.

International applicants were evaluated for academic skills required for the Discovery Program as well as learning goals and motivation, ability to comprehend tasks, logical reasoning, and English communication skills. Evaluations were based on academic transcripts, personal statements, letters of reference, language proficiency test scores, and interviews. The first period was comprised of nineteen candidates from seven countries.

The Discovery Program for Global Learners is an expansion of the already existing Matching Program, in which students build their own curriculum based on individual interests and future career goals in consultation with an academic advisor. The Discovery program, a four-year bachelor’s program which will launch in October 2017, will incorporate the Japanese-medium Matching track, including courses from departments across the university, and the Discovery track, offering courses taught in English. The program will bring together students of diverse backgrounds from both Japan and abroad.
