Professor Kunieda, Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science receives the Japan Prize of Agricultural Science and the Yomiuri Prize of Agricultural Science

The award ceremony for the 2018 Japan Prize of Agricultural Science and the 55th Yomiuri Prize of Agricultural Science was held to recognize researchers who made significant achievements in agricultural science at the University of Tokyo on April 5. Dr. Tetsuo Kunieda, professor at the Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science won both prizes for his joint research on improvement of livestock production through identification of causative genes for hereditary disorders with Dr. Yoshikazu Sugimoto, Director of the Shirakawa Institute of Animal Genetics, Japan Livestock Technology Association.

The Japan Prize of Agricultural Science is presented to researchers who have made distinguished achievements in agricultural science by the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies, which comprises members from the agricultural, forestry and fishing industries and has been regarded as the highest honor for agricultural researchers in Japan since the award was established in 1925. The Yomiuri Prize of Agricultural Science is granted to some researchers selected from the winners of the Japan Prize of Agricultural Science who have made distinguished achievements in horticulture, environmental science, biotechnology, farm products or other related areas.
