The Broadcasting Club’s short film CINEMA wins first place in the NHK National University Broadcasting Contest!

January 30, 2020

105 Universities (including vocational schools) and 117 groups from all over the country participated in NHK’s 36th National University Broadcasting Contest. Not only did Okayama University’s Broadcasting Club make it to the final round, but it came first in the Video Production category.

Other categories included Live, Public Service Announcement, Recitation, Audio Commercial, Radio Drama, Video Commercial, and Video Production. There was a total of 35 entries in the Video Production category, with only 5 entries being screened at Kyoto Asney (Kyoto City Lifelong Learning Center, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto) in the final round. "CINEMA" made it through to the qualifying round and was subsequently awarded first place, making Okayama University’s Broadcasting Club the winners of the Video Program category for the second consecutive year.

“It has only been a few years since the Broadcasting Club began to seriously work on Video Production”, said SERA Takuto, a third-year Literature student and the director of "CINEMA". “Though we did not have much knowledge or experience, we started studying film making. From there, we came up with the idea of making a meta-fiction about movies. "CINEMA" which has been produced through the collaborative work of all of our members, is a result not only of what we have learnt during club hours, but also what we have learnt during various lectures at Okayama University, as well as what we have learnt through our own playfulness and experimentation,” Takuto elaborated.
