Curriculum Policy of School of Education

In the Faculty of Education, we have composed a curriculum designed to train creative talent to be active in a broad range of real-life teaching situations, through teaching and research in educational theory and practice. In general education students study a wide range of contents in a variety of subjects, and in discipline-specific education, they also learn professional knowledge and develop the abilities required to become a teacher. In addition, they take a variety of subjects in order to acquire a rich sense of humanity and an outlook toward their professional career. The Faculty of Education features a "Teacher Training Core Curriculum" of student teaching and other experiential courses in order to train teachers equipped with practical teaching abilities. Students in this curriculum accumulate more practical learning in actual classroom settings and put to use the educational theory they have learned at university. Here they can reevaluate theory based on their own practice. The central aim of our curriculum, from the first year to the last, is to provide a path of practical training and experience in the classroom and make possible a conduit between university learning and classroom teaching, equipping instructors with the hands-on leadership abilities they need in the classroom. For example, we have established partnerships with schools and other institutions (museums, welfare facilities, etc.) to create what we call our “Field Challenge” program, in which students can plan, conduct, and evaluate specific educational programs in different contexts. In addition, we have also introduced an "Internship for Teaching Profession Practice" program to let our students gain further practical experience at local schools. Finally, we confirm the qualities and abilities our students have acquired to become a teacher in our "Seminar in Teaching Profession Practice." In all, our aim is to make a curriculum that fosters reflective and creative teachers who have acquired well-balanced practical teaching abilities.
