Policy for Acceptance of Students (Admission Policy)
The Faculty of Law seeks students equipped with the following abilities:
Profile of Prospective Students
Prospective students should have:
〇 the inquiry ability to think flexibly from a global perspective
〇 the implementation ability to identify issues, think persistently, and find solutions based on the knowledge built by their predecessors
〇 the expressiveness and language ability to clearly communicate their own challenges and ideas with a broad interest in global trends, such as the realization of a sustainable society, and
〇 a sustained interest in learning itself and the perseverance to make a solid effort.
Abilities Expected of Prospective Students
【Implementation Ability】
This is the ability to set specific goals for creating a better society and work proactively to achieve them.
【Inquiry Ability】
This is the ability to gather and organize information on issues discovered by the student and to consider solutions from a global perspective.
【Communication Ability】
This is the ability to understand the importance of values such as diversity and inclusiveness, develop their own ideas coherently, and collaborate with others through discussions and debates.
【Specialized Ability】
This is the ability to acquire fundamental knowledge of society with a focus on law and politics to address societal issues.
【Liberal Arts Ability】
This is the ability to think creatively from multiple perspectives through a wide range of learning with an interest in societies and cultures in Japan and abroad.
Screening Policy
The Faculty of Law conducts a General Entrance Examination, a Comprehensive Entrance Examination (requiring the Common Test for University Admissions), an Entrance Examination for Privately Financed International Students, an International Baccalaureate (IB) Entrance Examination, and an Entrance Examination for Adults, to accept diverse students who meet the “Profile of Prospective Students.”
Screening Method
Applicants will be examined using one or a combination of the following methods to assess their academic ability and aptitude for study at Okayama University: tests based on academic ability, essays, paper interviews, document screenings, and interviews.
Screening Process
・General Entrance Examination
Six to seven subjects of the Common Test for University Admissions are required to evaluate a wide range of fundamental academic abilities at the high school graduation level. In the University-specific Subject Area Admission Test, we require two subjects, Japanese and a foreign language (English), to assess the level of understanding and the application ability in subjects fundamental for studying law and political science.
・Comprehensive Entrance Examination
We require two subjects, Japanese and a foreign language, of the Common Test for University Admissions to evaluate a wide range of fundamental academic abilities at the high school graduation level. We also require a document screening (school report and personal statements) and a paper interview to evaluate vocabulary, self-expression skills, and motivation for learning.
・Entrance Examination for Privately Financed International Students
We require the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) to evaluate basic Japanese language proficiency and fundamental academic abilities. We also require an essay to evaluate critical thinking, judgment, and expression skills necessary for studying law and political science, and an interview (including academic questions) with multifaceted questions to comprehensively evaluate the aptitude for studying law and political science.
・International Baccalaureate (IB) Entrance Examination
We require a document screening (transcript of grades, personal statements, and an evaluation report) and an interview (including academic questions) to evaluate the important fundamental academic abilities needed to study law and political science. Students will also be required to show their self-expression skills and motivation for learning.
・Entrance Examination for Adults
We require a document screening and an interview (including academic questions) to evaluate the student’s motivation and aptitude for studying law and political science. We also require an essay to evaluate critical thinking, judgment, and expression skills necessary for studying law and political science. The final evaluation will be based on a comprehensive assessment of these results.
Prior to Enrollment
Students are expected to have a basic academic ability at the high school graduation level in various subjects including not only Japanese and Foreign Languages, which are emphasized in the entrance examination, but also in areas such as Social Studies and Mathematics, as they will engage in a systematic and progressive study of law and political science after enrollment. Therefore, prospective students are encouraged to read a wide range of books in their areas of interest, including those related to law and political science.
