Program Overview

The Faculty of Economics offers comprehensive education programs designed to confer expert knowledge and analytic skills related to the fields of economics, business administration, and accounting. The programs also make use of small group interactive seminars, and various other classroom models, which take advantage of active learning (AL).

The Faculty of Economics operates both Day and Evening courses; each of the courses featuring their own distinctive curriculums.

Profiles of Exemplary Candidates

Students gaining admission into the Faculty of Economics at Okayama University will take advantage of their unique skills and abilities, as they learn, and contemplate their future objectives, and academic career paths. Candidates should demonstrate the following characteristics:

  1. They should show an interest in economic and social issues.
  2. They should demonstrate a preference for logical thinking and mathematical analysis.
  3. They should demonstrate initiative in their actions and speech, with a desire to take on roles of responsibility among businesses, enterprises, in the government, at NGOs, NPOs, etc.
  4. They should desire to play an active role on the international stage, and demonstrate a strong command of English and other foreign languages.
  5. They should demonstrate compassion for disadvantaged members of society, a sense of social justice, and a passion to work for the benefit of humankind.

In order to ensure a smooth academic transit, students are expected to have achieved at least a senior high school academic equivalence in English, mathematics, and Japanese regardless of their university entrance examinations.

Department of Economics (Day Time Course)

Program Overview

The Faculty of Economics offers comprehensive education programs designed to confer expert knowledge and analytic skills related to the fields of economics, business administration and accounting. The programs also make use of small group interactive seminars, and various other classroom models, which take advantage of active learning (AL).

The curriculum is composed of six “modules.” The first five modules are; economic analysis, policy, international comparisons, organizational management, and accounting; these constitute a division of the fields of economics, business administration, and accounting. The sixth module, foundations of society membership, is intended to increase students’ practical English ability, communicative skills, and problem identification and solution skills. The sixth module is composed from the various programs which focus particularly on the application of AL.

Each of the modules is disassembled into three to five smaller “units,” each of which is a collection of coherent and related classes or programs. These modules and units ensure students’ timely awareness of their own career preferences, enabling them to choose the specific classes in which they will acquire the knowledge and skills best suited towards their future interests and purposes.

Department of Law (Evening Course)

Program Overview

The Faculty of Economics offers comprehensive education programs designed to confer expert knowledge and analytic skills related to the fields of economics, business administration and accounting. The programs also make use of small group interactive seminars, and various other classroom models, which take advantage of active learning (AL).

The curriculum can be divided into two courses: The General Economics and Management Course aimed at providing broad comprehensive learning alongside specialized economic and managerial expertise, and the Practical Business Skill Development Course aimed at developing the practical skills required by an advanced and specialized professional of the field.

Throughout the first two years, a series of introductory lectures and courses ensure that students acquire a comprehensive and foundational understanding of economics, business administration and accounting. From the second to the forth years will involve the acquisition of advanced knowledge and specialization through a series of small group, interactive seminars, etc., with a strong focus on the application of AL.

Highly-motivated students have the opportunity to attend “thematic study course,” as well as attend seminars provided in the day course and curriculum for further individual studies.

The Evening course particularly welcomes those who wish to continue learning, however, because of financial reasons are required to work through the day; also, those who are already fulfilling a specific role in society but wish to further their learning; finally, those who wish to increase their abilities and pursue further individual possibilities.
