Policy for Acceptance of Students (Admission Policy)

The School of Education seeks students who have developed the following abilities:

Profile of Prospective Students

Prospective students should have an interest in and enthusiasm for education and children’s growth, development, and mental and physical health, and have a clear sense of purpose for contributing to the holistic growth of children, the advancement of school education, and the betterment of the community.

Abilities Expected of Prospective Students

【Implementation Ability】

The ability to enjoy activities with children, to approach the world with curiosity and enthusiasm, in order to convey the joy of learning.

【Inquiry Ability】

The ability to be intellectually inquisitive about school education and children’s growth, development, and physical and mental health.

【Communication Ability】

The ability to express their own ideas and make an effort to build good relationships by understanding various people around them.

【Specialized Ability】

The ability to obtain the fundamental academic skills necessary to support the advancement of school education and the holistic growth of children, as well as show interest in and enthusiasm for various specialized fields of education.

【Liberal Arts Ability】

The ability to have a broad interest in nature and society, and to continue learning.

Screening Policy

In order to recruit a broad and diverse group of people, several types of examinations are conducted on different dates.

Screening Method

The selection process is based on one or a combination of academic tests, interviews, document screening and paper interviews to assess each applicant’s academic ability and aptitude for studying at Okayama University.

Screening Process


・General Entrance Examination

Applicants will be examined on their fundamental academic abilities at the high school graduation level through the Common Test for University Admissions, which covers six to seven subject areas and eight subjects.
For the University-specific Subject Area Admission Test, applicants to the teacher training program must choose two subjects from four subject areas: Japanese, Science, Mathematics, and a foreign language (English), or select from practical skills in Music, Art, or Physical Education. The applicants’ level of understanding and ability to apply the subjects fundamental to becoming a teacher are evaluated (the choice of subjects may be specified based on the desired major).
Applicants for the Training Course for School Nurse Teachers (Yogo Teacher) will be required to submit an essay and undergo a paper interview to assess their understanding, critical thinking, and expression skills regarding the role of a health education teacher, as well as the development and health of children.


・School Recommendation-Based Entrance Examination Ⅰ (not requiring the Common Test for University Admissions)〔Okayama Prefecture Northern Region Education Program Selection〕

Applicants will be evaluated through interviews (including academic questions), essays, and document screening (statement of purpose, extracurricular activity report, school report, and recommendation letters). This comprehensive evaluation assesses the candidates' motivation and suitability for contributing to schools and the local community as teachers in the northern region of Okayama Prefecture.


・School Recommendation-Based Entrance Examination Ⅰ (not requiring the Common Test for University Admissions)〔Okayama Prefecture Industrial Education Teacher Training Program Selection〕

Applicants will be evaluated through interviews (including academic questions), essays, and document screening (statement of purpose, school report, and recommendation letters). This comprehensive evaluation assesses the candidates' motivation and suitability for contributing to schools, the local community, and the industrial sector as industrial education teachers in Okayama Prefecture.

・School Recommendation-Based Entrance Examination Ⅱ (requiring the Common Test for University Admissions)

Applicants will be examined on their fundamental academic abilities at the high school graduation level through the Common Test for University Admissions, which covers six to seven subject areas and eight subjects.
Applicants will be evaluated through interviews (including academic questions) and document screening (statement of purpose, school report, recommendation letters, and English language proficiency test scores〔for the English Education Course of the Junior High School Education Major only〕). This evaluation assesses the candidates' motivation and willingness to play an active role in the educational field, as well as their interest and understanding of their chosen specialization based on their previous studies and activities.

・Comprehensive Entrance Examination

Applicants will be examined on their fundamental academic abilities at the high school graduation level through the Common Test for University Admissions, which covers six to seven subject areas and eight subjects.
Interviews (including academic questions) and document screening (personal statements and school report) will evaluate the candidates' motivation and willingness to play an active role in the educational field as health education teachers, as well as their interest and understanding of their chosen specialization based on their previous studies and activities.

・International Baccalaureate (IB) Entrance Examination

Applicants will be evaluated through interviews and document screening (transcript of grades, personal statements, and evaluation reports). This evaluation will assess the candidates' fundamental academic abilities based on global standards, their motivation and willingness to play an active role in the field of Japanese school education, their interest and understanding of their chosen specialization based on previous studies and activities, and their level of international awareness.

Prior to Enrollment

In high school, please be enthusiastic about your classes. Don't simply focus on mastering the content of your classes, but also discover the joy of learning. A good teacher is someone who can convey the joy of learning. Take an interest in children's learning and development, their physical and mental health, and the societal issues surrounding education. Think about these topics in your own way, and actively participate in club activities and volunteer work to gain a wide range of experiences.
