Program Overview

The Faculty of Engineering aims to foster individuals who can contribute to the development of science and technology for the peace and welfare of human society. By harmonizing with the environment, seeking new knowledge, and constantly striving for innovation through basic and applied research, we aim to contribute to both local and global society.

In particular, the goal of the faculty is to nurture the following talents: 1) the ability to cultivate basic science and technical knowledge; 2) a broad perspective and the ability to make synergistic and flexible judgments; 3) sense of ethics, and a commitment to society; 4) high-level communication skills, in both Japanese and foreign languages, and information literacy skills; and 5) self-discipline and a rich sense of humanity. The faculty offers educational programs in a liberal arts education and the courses offered for majors that impart fundamental knowledge, theory of science and technology in addition to important and practically useful technical skills.

Profiles of Exemplary Candidates

To achieve the above aims, the faculty offers admission to:

  1. individuals who have the potential to integrate new learning, and study with a sense of curiosity.
  2. individuals who have an interest in how science and technology work within human society and the environment.
  3. individuals who have Japanese and English communication skills in response to globalization.

The faculty seeks individuals who have the fundamental and broad education as high school graduates, and who are able to not only learn subjects (for instance, mathematics, science, and English) of the educational programs of the faculty but also apply them in the real world.

Other academic qualifications required from high school are given in the admission policies of the individual departments.

Department of Mechanical and Systems Engineering

Program Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Systems Engineering, in conformity to the policy of the Faculty of Engineering, aims to foster individuals who can contribute to the development of science and technology for the peace and welfare of human society. By harmonizing with the environment, seeking new knowledge, and constantly striving for innovation through basic and applied research, we aim to contribute to both local and global society.

In addition to the shared traits mentioned above, the Department of Mechanical and Systems Engineering also expects applicants to possess an interest in the development of innovative machinery and systems, the method and process of manufacturing, as well as to have acquired foundations in mathematics and physics.

Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering

In addition to the qualifications mentioned above, which are common in the Faculty, the Department expects applications to possess an interest in the indispensable contributions that electrical electronic, communication-network engineering can make to the establishment of a low-carbon society, which achieves a balance between nature and humankind. Applications are also expected to possess foundational academic abilities in mathematics and physics, as well as a desire to contribute to the society through the use of acquired skills and knowledge.

Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology as well as the Faculty of Engineering aims to foster individuals who can contribute to the development of science and technology for the peace and welfare of human society. By harmonizing with the environment, seeking new knowledge, and constantly striving for innovation through basic and applied research, we aim to contribute to both local and global society.

In particular, the goal of the faculty is to nurture the following talents: 1) the ability to cultivate basic science and technical knowledge; 2) a broad perspective and the ability to make synergistic and flexible judgments; 3) sense of ethics, and a commitment to society; 4) high-level communication skills, in both Japanese and foreign languages, and information literacy skills; and 5) self-discipline and a rich sense of humanity. In addition to the shared traits mentioned above, the Department of Information Technology expects applicants, in view of the potential opportunity for international contribution founded on computer and intelligence related science and engineering, to possess an interest and strong sense of curiosity concerning the nature of intelligence and scientific rationality, and an interest in the construction of information systems that form the basis of society and industry, as well as a fundamental ability concerning Mathematics and English.

Department of Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology

In addition to the shared traits mentioned above, the Department of Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology is looking for applicants who have studied and possess an interest in all high school academic subjects, with a focus on mathematics and science, are able to clearly understand the fundamentals of those subjects, and are able to think rationally and make use of those subjects. Additionally, applicants who possess a strong study habit and the tendency to ask “why,” in regards to all things.
