Okayama-Hue International Master's Program
in Sustainability of Rural and Environmental Systems


Program Description and Target Groups
This course provides students with the opportunity to broaden their academic and research experience. InMaPRES offers courses on the fundamentals of environmental management, combined with agricultural technology. The academic program is flexible to some extent, tailoring to the educational goals of individual students and emphasizing problem-oriented learning, field-based learning, and systematic approaches to sustainability and interdisciplinary study. A research investigation producing a written thesis to the particular area of study is required.
The program aims to educate students on sustainable development and prepare them for leadership roles at the local, regional and national level. In other words, the successful completion of this course will lead students to become specialists of environmental management with knowledge of advanced agricultural technology, and/or experts of agricultural technology and environmental management as well. They are expected to contribute to sustainable development in Vietnam as leading-edge specialists mainly in the fields of local and/or central governments, international organizations, and universities.
Those who strive to become known worldwide in the field of either environmental science or agricultural science are encouraged to go on to the doctoral courses at Okayama University.

Duration: 2.5 years

The first year (from September to August); Study at Hue University with a curriculum co-designed by Okayama University and Hue University. The teaching staff at Okayama University will also participate in the first year education program at Hue in Vietnam. Students should enroll in all the courses during the year.
Preliminary Stage (from September to March); Preparatory education for seven months including Japanese language education as well as preparatory research for the master's thesis at Hue University.
The second year (from April to March); Attend Okayama University as a second year graduate student. After fulfilling the graduate school requirements, a Master's degree will be granted. Outstanding graduates of this program are encouraged to go on to the doctoral course at Okayama University.

Degree: Awarded by Okayama University (Master of Environmen tal Science, Master of Agriculture, or Master of Philosophy depending on the major).

Number of Students enrolled in the program: 8 per year

Majors: Rural Environmental Management Major, Agricultural Development Major

Required Documents for Application

  1. Application form
  2. Official academic records issued by the institution from which the applicant graduated or is expected to graduate
  3. English Certificate of TOEFL(International or Institutional), TOEIC or IELTS.
  4. Summary of graduation thesis, or summary of research or job now (in case that the applicant does it after graduation) (in English, one page of A4 paper, figures and tables can be included)
  5. Summary of ambition in this program and after this program (about 300 words in English)
  6. Certificate of graduation or expected graduation
  7. Health certificate

Entrance Examination: Conducted by Okayama University with the cooperation of Hue University through judgement with the required documents and interview in English. For more information, please contact the Okayama University Office in Hue.

Languages required: English at Hue University; English and Japanese at Okayama University

Admission: Open to all Vietnamese with a B.A. degree in the relevant majors, such as Environmental Science, Forestry, Soil Science, Hydro Engineering, Animal Science, Crop Science, Biology, Agronomy, Land Management and Aquacultural Science.

Tuition: Okayama University tuition is waived for all students in this program during the period of study at Okayama University.
Hue University tuition is USD1,500 for study at Hue University for three semesters.

Scholarship: Provided by Okayama University (up to 12 months) to all students in this program during the period of study at Okayama University.

Travel Allowance: Okayama University pays travel expenses from Hue to Okayama for all students in this program. Students who successfully complete the program and return to Vietnam without any extension of stay in Japan will be given travel expenses for their return trip.
