Greetings

Japan has entered an era of extreme population aging, declining birth rates, and high death rates, and its healthcare needs are becoming increasingly diverse. Healthcare and nursing care require not only efficiency, but also quality assurance. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan’s health and medical welfare challenges have changed greatly. In the future, it is predicted that there will be an increase of foreigners and greater diversity of patients, more and more natural disasters caused by climate change due to global warming, large-scale disasters such as the predicted Nankai Trough earthquake, and outbreaks of unknown infectious diseases due to globalization. In addition, robot technology is becoming more common in medical and disaster settings. In the future, even more technological advancement is expected, and health and medical care must respond to these advancements.
Under such circumstances, our laboratory is committed to education and research with the goal of discovering high quality, sustainable nursing practices for people who require nursing care, such as critical care nursing, perioperative nursing, and cancer nursing.

Laboratory Introduction

Okayama University Graduate School of Health Sciences, Clinical Applied Nursing (Acute Care Nursing) opened in April 2020 and is a small new laboratory with one professor and one assistant professor. Currently, there are three doctoral students and three master’s students enrolled in the program. With the COVID-19 pandemic, online classes and seminars are now available, making studying at our institution possible not only within Western Japan, but from farther reaches as well.
In our laboratory, we conduct research from a broad range of perspectives in areas such as critical care, cancer nursing, acute care nursing, perioperative nursing, and nursing education in order to meet the changing needs of future society. To those who harbor interest in these areas of nursing and research, we encourage you to join us in our efforts to make research together and contribute to this field.
