Our Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategies

To ensure steady progress toward its goals, Okayama University has systematically defined its Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategies, which set out the University’s purpose, future aspirations, guiding principles, and concrete approaches to implementation.

Okayama University defines the MVVS relationship as shown above: the Mission is our mandate, the Vision is our ideal future state, Values are our guidelines for action, and Strategies consists of the specific measures to realize that Vision.

1.Our Mission

The Okayama region has a long history of addressing societal challenges, exemplified by the establishment of Shizutani School, Japan's first school for the common people, and the fiscal reconstruction and educational reforms of the Bitchu-Matsuyama Domain. It also possesses a distinctive geographical character as a crossroads where people, goods, and cultures converge, fostering diverse exchanges.
Building on this historical and regional context, Okayama University, as a research university, serves as a crossroads of knowledge where diverse ideas and talent come together to generate new knowledge. The University generates advanced knowledge, integrates it across disciplines, and passes it for future generations by nurturing the talent that will shape the future. Furthermore, by working with a wide range of stakeholders ranging from within the University to the region and the world to address global challenges, we contribute to the realization of a sustainable future.

In pursuit of our mission, we have aligned our target year with the 2050 global climate change goals, establishing the "Okayama University Long-term Vision 2050： A research university co-creating the future of the region and the earth, contributing to global innovation."
We aim to share our aspirations with all stakeholders, serving as a regional core that contributes to a sustainable society and the co-creation of a "desired future" for human and planetary well-being.
To realize these twin ideals, we place research and innovation at the core of our activities. As a research university that is both globally competitive and a central pillar of the region, Okayama University will continue to advance its mission and open new pathways to the future.

3.Our Values

To realize our vision, the university has established "Future-orientation," "Challenge," and "Inclusion" as the core values that guide the daily actions of every member.
By maintaining a broad perspective (Future-orientation) and taking the first step toward that future (Challenge), we pursue the well-being of all stakeholders. To support this, we prioritize respecting diverse perspectives and building mutual understanding through sincere dialogue (Inclusion) as our foundation.

4.Our Strategies

Strategy for Co-creating the Future 2025-2027

Medium-term Objective Period (2025-2027), we have developed the "Strategy for Co-creating the Future 2025-2027."
Our strategy is built on three main pillars: Education and Human Capital Strategy, Research and Medical Strategy, and Institutional Environment and Infrastructure Strategy. This framework connects all our core functions, powered by the active involvement of our diverse community to drive us toward Long-term Vision 2050.
