Education Implementation Policy
To provide education that helps students develop the ability to continue to learn independently in order to implement sustainable societies.
Education Principles
The following educational content is provided, from the perspective of proactive and interactive deep learning, with emphasis on what students have become able to do, rather than what has been taught.
【General Education】
General education aims to develop general knowledge and skills, and provides practical activities for learning with other students, while maturing and creating together.
Specifically, the curriculum provides major foundational courses in the 1st year to establish the basis for specialized knowledge in economics, business, and accounting. The scope of education and research in the School of Economics is broad, and in the 1st year, students take a wide range of major foundation courses common to each specialty. This allows them to acquire basic knowledge of economics, business, and accounting in general, preparing them for more specialized education starting in the 2nd year.
【Specialized Education】
Specialized education provides students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of specialization by offering systematically designed curricula and helping students to integrate and create knowledge from different fields of expertise.
〔Course Progression〕
(Day Time Course)
From the 2nd year onwards, major courses are structured into five specialized subject groups, a practical subject group centered on active learning, and a social collaboration subject group led by external lecturers, making up a total of eight subject groups (units). By following these units according to the major subject groups (modules), students can achieve their respective learning objectives. By taking courses within the same module (systematic learning), students can deepen their expertise in a specific area, while taking courses across multiple modules (cross-disciplinary learning) allows them to systematically broaden their specialized knowledge. Specific modules include the Economic Analysis Module, Policy Module, International Comparison Module, Organizational Management Module, and Accounting Module.
In small-sized classes, such as foundational research taken from the 1st year and graduation research in the 3rd and 4th years, students apply the specialized knowledge they have acquired to identify, analyze, and solve various social issues.
(Evening Course)
After systematically learning the foundational knowledge of economics, business administration, and accounting through major foundation courses in the 1st year, students enhance their expertise through discipline-specific education courses from the 2nd year onwards and seminar, practicum, practice, exercise courses in the 3rd year. A system of “theme-based study” is also in place to allow motivated students to receive discipline-specific education from the 1st year.
Furthermore, starting from the 2021 academic year, a regional human resource development program has been launched in collaboration with the evening course of the School of Law. This program positions a certain number of discipline-specific education courses from both schools as common specialized subjects, creating a joint educational program.
The evening course adopts a two-track system: The Comprehensive Learning Course, which aims to acquire broad knowledge and expertise in the fields of economics, business administration, and accounting; and the Practical Skills Enhancement Course, which aims to enhance practical skills by acquiring expertise in both the fields of economics, business administration, and accounting, and the field of law. Graduation requirements are set to support these goals.
【Language Education】
The school of Economics provides students with opportunity to enhance the English skills necessary to thrive in a global society.
In addition to major courses, the opportunities are provided to learn a range of subjects necessary for developing comprehensive skills in listening, reading, speaking, and writing. For major courses, courses conducted in English are offered for students in their second year and above.
Educational Methods
The aforementioned educational content is provided in the following ways:
(1) To acquire advanced specialized knowledge and the ability to apply it in economics, business administration, and accounting, lectures and seminars are taken.
(2) In particular, seminar courses such as foundational research, graduation research, and practical communication theory are conducted using active learning. By taking these courses, students accumulate experience in reporting and presenting, fostering active learning. Through dialogue with fellow students and faculty, communication skills for collaborating with others are developed.
(3) Various lecture and seminar courses are offered, featuring professionals working at the forefront, such as business managers and public officials. In seminar courses, solutions to real-world issues faced by companies are developed by each team. This cultivates the ability to identify social issues and the practical skills to solve them.
Academic Performance Evaluation Policy
The learning outcomes of lecture courses are evaluated based on the degree of achievement of the learning objectives stated in the syllabus, using methods such as exams, reports, and class assignments, tailored to the characteristics of each course. The evaluation methods are clearly indicated in the syllabus and other materials.
Foundational research and graduation research are comprehensively evaluated based on the students' engagement with their topics and the status of their presentations of their findings. Career education courses are evaluated through reports and class assignments.
Extracurricular Education Policy
Students are provided with opportunities to attend lectures by inviting scholars and practitioners, creating spaces for interaction to enable them to understand their personal development beyond classroom learning.
