Diabetes Center

What is the Diabetes Center?

In recent years, patients with diabetes are increasing rapidly worldwide. There are about ten million diabetes mellitus patients in Japan. Taking effective measures against diabetes mellitus is an important issue worldwide because diabetic complications such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, and periodontal disease might lead to decreased quality of life (QOL) and reduced life prognosis. Given that background, the Diabetes Center was established in April 2012 to provide high-quality diabetes care in close and efficient coordination with associated medical staff. The Diabetes Center also trains medical staff engaged in diabetes medical care and promotes regional medical partnerships including primary care doctors. High-quality medical care for diabetes and diabetic complications was provided through team medical care in cooperation with related clinical divisions such as Diabetology, Cardiovascular Medicine, Nephrology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Obstetrics and Periodontics and Endodontics.
