What is the Children’s Emergency and Critical Care Center?
Our Children’s Emergency and Critical Care Center works closely with regional pediatric centers designated as Pediatric Emergency Medical Support Hospitals, which serve as the primary entry point for pediatric emergency care. Under the following guiding principles, we are dedicated to providing centralized, specialized care for critically ill children. Our Guiding Principles
- 24/7 acceptance of pediatric patients in the hyperacute phase
- Building a collaborative care system to ensure continuous, advanced, and specialized treatment beyond the hyperacute phase
- Training medical professionals in pediatric intensive care and advanced pediatric emergency medicine
While we are internationally recognized for the treatment of children with congenital heart disease, our collaboration with the Advanced Critical Care Center also enables us to provide high-level care for conditions such as sepsis, acute encephalopathy, severe respiratory failure, and major trauma.
We operate doctor-staffed emergency vehicles (Doctor Cars) that support pre-hospital care in cooperation with emergency services and transport critically ill children—including those requiring extracorporeal life support (ECLS)—to our facility.
After initial acute-phase treatment, we collaborate with our Pediatric Medical Center to provide a wide range of ongoing care. This includes not only internal medicine and surgical care but also mental health services and genetic counseling to ensure comprehensive support for children and their families.
